Meet Jaco
The Man Behind the Mic
Years before Jaco ever imagined owning Musiekpret, he and his wife attended a Musiekpret show for a very special reason: their own honeymoon fundraiser!
They hosted the evening at Oude Werf, with Wouter, the original owner of Musiekpret, presenting the show. Whether their team actually won that night is a little harder to remember! What they certainly didn't know was that, a few years later, Jaco would be the one standing behind the microphone.
When Wouter and his family decided to move overseas, Musiekpret became available to buy. Jaco's father-in-law suggested that he consider it.
At first, the thought of owning a business, and especially standing in front of a room full of people presenting a musical game show, felt a little daunting.
But his father-in-law reminded him of something: Jaco had confidently stood up and sung to his wife in front of everyone at their wedding. And Jaco remembered the “recognise the song and artist” games he had loved playing with friends at school.
Maybe this wasn't such a crazy idea after all.
So in 2009, Jaco took a leap of faith and bought Musiekpret from Wouter.
The man who had once sat in the audience at his own Musiekpret fundraiser was now the man behind the mic.

13 years later...
It's hard to believe this photo was taken 13 years ago. By then, we had already been doing Musiekpret for four years!
Our kids were still young, and we spent almost every weekend travelling from one town to the next, meeting new people, making new friends and reconnecting with familiar faces along the way.
It wasn't always easy being away from home so much, especially with young children. But Jaco loved every opportunity to present Musiekpret and see a room full of people enjoying themselves.
And the amazing thing is... 13 years later, that hasn't changed.
Jaco still gets excited about finding great musical hits, editing music and putting new games together to keep Musiekpret fresh and exciting.
For him, one of the best parts is seeing something he has spent hours creating come alive in front of an audience. Watching a room respond, get involved and simply have a great time makes all the preparation and all those kilometres on the road worthwhile.
For Jaco, it's never been about simply presenting a show. He wants every Musiekpret client to feel they made the right choice, and every guest to go home having had a great night.
The years have passed, the kids have grown up and we've travelled a lot of kilometres since those early days. And now, every so often, things come full circle when Josko or Zoe joins Jaco as his sound engineer for the show.
A lot has changed over the years, but Jaco's love for Musiekpret is still just as strong.
